Back-country Trail Closure -Updated Sept. 2nd - City of Fernie trails

We have been advised by Fernie Fire and Rescue - Fire Chief Ted Ruiter that: Effective 1:00 MST Saturday Sept. 2nd, due to extreme wildfire hazard, the City of Fernie will be closing all trail access, including Coal Creek Heritage Trail, Old Stumpy, Coal Discovery Trail (Elk Valley Trail), Mt. Proctor Trails accessed from the Visitor Centre trailhead. The Dyke trails will remain open.

Back-country Trail Closure - Effective Sept. 2, 2017 1pm

The closure also now includes all trails on Canwel, Ridgemont & Montane property.

What does this mean? Full closure of all trails on Crown land. Please see attached list for trails this includes and watch for more information to come.

Trail Reopened - Elk Valley Trail (Smooth Salamander section)

ATTN: SMOOTH SALAMANDER IS REOPENED. (Branch G/ River Road Extension / Three Kings) 

The section where the cattle guard was is still closed. Detour around barb wire fence, to River Road, then continue on trail Cokato Road.

Elk Valley Community Trail Grand Opening Update

Meet at the Aquatic Centre at 1pm for the group ride from Fernie to the Hosmer Ruins. Alternativley you can drive and meet us at the Hosmer Ruins at 5pm for a free BBQ and refreshments.  A free shuttle will be provided back to Fernie and Sparwood for bikers.

WildSafeBC Bear Spray Demo - July 2nd

 

Bears, biking, hiking…  Do you know how to use bear spray?

Come along and learn how to respond to wildlife encounters and get hands on experience using inert bear spray (like the real thing but without the sting of the pepper).  Sunday July 2nd at 2pm at the Fernie Bike Park Gazebo behind the aquatic centre.
